The Christian cannot cut corners. They must deal with the whole self, warts & all. To not begin with the ruined soul, is to bypass repentance & not to understand salvation at all. But this does not usually enter into our polite conversations....although, it is imperative & very necessary for salvation & spiritual formation.

It’s God who changes our hearts. We may deceive ourselves thinking it’s just another resolution we make to work on ourselves. We try harder, “I’ll do better this time.’ We think we just need to ‘wait on the Lord’. Or, we mistakenly believe just gathering more information will help. But Jesus promises when we actively place ourselves on his operating table, he does heart surgery & we come away with true change. We don’t just act loving, we become loving!
