Have you ever felt overwhelmed by evil in the world as you watch the news, or see it played out in life before you? What power do we have over these things, who or what is the answer to all the ills which we face in life? Paul says it is the Gospel in which the righteous will live by faith in the face of corruption & injustice - that God will eventually overcome all things via the power of the Gospel of Christ.

Stay at the table! Don’t give up. Realize in church life people will fail you, hurt you, but God will not. In that pain of disillusionment there is something deeper to which God is calling us to as a church community. As in marriage, divorce is not an option. We don’t just cut & run at the smallest thing, or at times of disillusionment. We work it through, not becoming the old bitter couple who doesn’t talk, but rather the old couple who still holds hands& everyone says, “Oh, aren’t they so cute!” In this sermon we go from Romans 1 comparing Christian Community to three archetypes in Scripture; the Garden, The New Jerusalem, and the Last Supper. We discuss how we can stay committed, working through issues in trust of Christ & pray for our church as we move forward!

What was Paul’s, and likewise, our purpose in the world? What did Paul see in the Hebrew Scriptures (the Old Testament) concerning Jesus? How did it inform and direct his life? What are Jesus credentials, and where does his authority originate from? And to what does he call us? Are all questions we address in this Sundays sermon. Enjoy.

Servants and Apostles

Paul refers to himself in Romans 1:1 as servant & apostle... There are good servants & selfish servants. Servants who live in the house of the master, but don’t share his desires. Servants who live double lives, smiling at the master when he’s in the room, but sneering behind his back. Servants who steal, and take advantage of his good nature. Or say yes, but then don’t follow through, or don’t do his bidding well. Such servants cannot expect to have any real intimacy with the master. They miss out on all the benefits of the relationship. Am I a good servant? Do I represent well? Do I share his desire? Would others seek me out since they sense that I am close to the master; that I reflect his love & grace to them? Do I benefit from the gracious nature of Jesus in all ways through my intimacy with him? These are the questions addressed in our first sermon of this series.
