Our relationship with Christ is mirrored in matrimony, and marked by fidelity & faithfulness. A relationship officially sealed in community, pregnant with commitment, and sealed with ongoing forgiveness. God is committed to his Bride, the Church. He protects & works for the good of his spouse throughout all time - never giving up, always keeping his covenant promise. We explore these ideas at the end of chapter 8 of Romans this Sunday.

Some issues trip us up getting us into heady arguments. Predestination is one. But let’s let it stand as it should, something we cannot fully comprehend, but a comfort nonetheless. God is working for our good, conforming us to his image, as we are sheltered under his grace. We have ultimate grand purpose in Him. For that we can be grateful!

Romans 8:18-27 reveals that although we’ve been promised some suffering in the Christian life, we’ve also been promised a future hope on which we can rely due to the unchanging nature of God & His promises. God has not left us alone in our struggle but rather intercedes for us, and with us, providing all the tools necessary to withstand spiritual attack in daily battle!

We are children of God, legally adopted, taking on the family name, and all that comes with it. Including all the glory, as well as the suffering. By faith alone we’ve become heirs, and co-heirs with Christ. What should that do to a persons outlook & demeanor in life? What does it mean in how we view ourselves inwardly, and how we operate outwardly? This is what we explore in this weeks sermon.

We often feel we battle with two separate selves. The good & bad; the Enemy Within. This week Paul talks about the difference between those who have their minds set on what the flesh desires as opposed to those who have their minds set on what the Spirit desires. But he has good news for those of us who live in constant accusation or condemnation, for those who feel they consistently lose the battle to the flesh...the Spirit of God wins! God is pleased with you in Christ - the struggle means something!

Romans 8 tells us there’s no condemnation for those in Christ Jesus. Nice thought, but is that how we live? Since if you don’t feel condemnation you won’t exude condemnation on others. If you feel security, love & grace, that will come out in your life & witness. To understand Romans 8:1 is to change your life in great ways!

We soften the blow of serious issues in softening language. God says to us there is no softening the blow when it comes to the gravity of sin, and our need for a savior. But if we’ll turn and face truth, there is ample grace to overcome. Join us in listening to Paul once more as he eloquently outlines sin, law & grace further.

Paul’s been harping on sin & salvation. It’s good for the constant reminder, and driving it home, but the Christian life is not just about avoiding sin & the pursuit of purity & holiness. It is about extending ourselves, investing in others, and furthering the interests of our Master - since as Christians we’ve willingly given ourselves to Christ as slaves of righteousness - join us in exploring these ideas in Romans 7:1-6 this week.

As Jason continued his much earned vacation we were blessed by a message from Vinny Nicoletti, 6:8's own Worship Leader extraordinare. He preached on John 13 and specifically Jesus' washing of the disciples feet. He explored this act in it's historical and social context and also looked of the revolutionary act as a precursor of Jesus' eventual sacrifice on the Cross.
