With Pastor Jason out of town, our 6:8 Worship Leader, Vinny Nicoletti shared a powerful message on what it means to worship honestly. He challenged us to approach God in worship daily and with vulnerability, even when we feel far from God's presence:

"I want to make an important point here…please listen to me. A heart of worship is not perfect…it’s honest. There’s nothing hidden. Your worship isn’t only authentic when you are on-fire for God.

Maybe your heart feels a longing for the passion that you had once with God. Maybe you are yearning for that passion again. That yearning, offered to God, is also worship.

Or maybe you are grieving that even the longing is gone, and you’re barely able to feel anything but sadness that your passion is gone. That grief and remorse, offered to God, is also worship."

The Butterfly Effect states that if a butterfly flaps it’s wings in one part of the world, it can have catastrophic effects in another. It flaps its wings in Brazil, and a tornado in Texas rips through a town. Minute changes can have large consequences. What if that were true of our prayers? If we follow the lead of the Holy Spirit when he prompts us to pray, especially in a concerted unified way, what effects could that have across the world and throughout history?

Paul wasn’t just an evangelist, he was church planter. That involved quite a bit of work, from preaching, to evangelization, to leadership development - all to see vibrant healthy giving churches planted in the Gentile people groups who would continue the work of the ministry as he left.

How we view ourselves in Christ dictates our priorities which lead to what we do to bring glory to His name. Paul saw himself as a Priest bringing the living sacrifice of the Gentiles to the alter of God. How do we view ourselves in order to participate in the calling God has upon our lives to the nations?

From Genesis 3 to the end of Revelations it’s a story of God’s burning desire to get his family back. Today we summarize what we’ve learned thus far in Romans & other places. Paul brings us back to the simple Gospel and our call to reach the nations with it. Are we just standing ankle deep in the waters of Scripture or diving headlong into the Gospel calling when we hear it? Are we taken with the calling of God for those whom have been taken from Him?

Insecurity, self-pity & immaturity derail the faith community from Her central calling of expanding God’s kingdom reign among all people groups. Sometimes we need to operate in community with one blind eye & one deaf ear. Overlooking some things, not listening too attentively to others - letting some things go since someone just needs to grow up as they grow old. Instead we disciple them through their issues placing our own pleasures in subordination to the greater calling of the Church and seeking peace & unity for it.

The key to a great New Year is to know God’s wisdom, to do God’s wisdom, then repeat it over & over again. We explore Proverbs 17:24 as a verse for our future hope together in this sermon. How do we gain wisdom & practice it in obedience to God’s call on our lives is the ultimate New Years Resolution.
